Tasavvuf

It is said: Islamic Sufism originated in Arabia, found its golden age in Central Asia and its fruits can be found in Anatolia.

TASAVVUF -Islamic Sufism

Rahmi Oruç Güvenç says in the book „das Zittern des ewigen Lebens folgendes:

„The root of Tasavvuf is the search for divine closeness “

On the path of Tasavvuf there are two things we are longing for:

Love und Knowledge (aşk ve ilim)

Love is like the water of immortality. Anyone who knows the secrets of the heart will not reach the sadness of this world. The knowledge of the path of Tasavvuf is in the heart. The „love“ we are talking about is not a romantic or sentimental love. This form of love for God (aşk) burns everything in the heart and leaves nothing behind except Allah. And how do you find this form of love for God? By developing intuition. If you follow this path, competition and resistance give way to contentment and a pacification of the heart. Mevlânâ tells us that this special kind of love of God (aşk) carries a light within it. When this love comes over a heart, that heart begins to burn and the light becomes brighter. The reason we are in this world is so that we can attain divine love. A Hadith says : „My heaven and my earth do not embrace me, but the heart of my believing servant embraces me.“ Here we learn about the central position of the heart in Sufism and Islam. We must develop our heart (Turkish: gönül/Arabic: qalb) and make peace with it; then doubts and conflict disappear. When aşk grasps a person, everything changes and a special form of knowledge reaches him through the opening of the ‘eyes of the heart’.

The path of Tasavvuf is also a path of knowledge. (ilim) Allah created human beings in such a way that they can attain this knowledge. Another hadith tells us: “He who knows himself (his Nefs) knows his Lord.” The Nefs (the instinctual soul) of man has, on the one hand, a connection to the soul (Rûh) and to the light (Nur) and, on the other hand, a connection to the body and the earth. The human being decides in which direction his instinctual soul develops. The knowledge of Allah is an immutable knowledge, which is different from the relative knowledge of man. We divide the knowledge that Allah gives to man into two forms of divine intuition: „Wahi“ and „Ilham“

A central idea of Tasavvuf is the conception of the „Vahdet-i Vücud“.  The special thing about the Vahdet-i Vücud (the philosophy of the unity of all being) is that one can achieve union with the divine and achieve divine knowledge in this life. In the „Vahdet“ philosophy it is known that every part of matter contains a touch of the divine spark. In order to come close to divine knowledge, the concept of immortality is of great importance. Fear of death is the greatest fear in a person’s life. The cause of this form of fear is ignorance. Anyone who finds love and overcomes this fear will find deep tolerance. For him, life and death are the same. The idea of the water of life (Bengüsu) also speaks of this immortality and infinity. The one who finds this true knowledge is no longer afraid of dying. This type of knowledge is called Marifet. It means acting from the basis of the divine will.
