Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç (1948 -2017) was an ethnomusicologist, psychologist, music therapist and lineage holder of six tarikats (order paths) in the tradition of Tasavvuf (Islamic Sufism). He researched and founded oriental music therapy and established the “Center for Research and Application of Turkish Music” at Cerrahpaşa University (Turkey). In the mid-seventies of the last century he founded the international musician formation “Tümata”, which made Turkish and Central Asian songs and the healing knowledge of ancient cultures accessible again. Dr. Güvenç taught at Istanbul University and gave courses, seminars and congresses around the world. He received an honorary professorship from the University of Fergana (Uzbekistan) and was awarded by the Argentine Academia de las Naciones (Argentina).

Oruç Güvenç lived an extraordinary life, embedded in the providential power of an important tradition. Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç was a realized soul (Insan Kamil) who lived and conveyed to people light, hope, tolerance, love and an image of humanity as a “truly humanistic person”. He moved in the ocean of unity and traditional wisdom (hikmet) and had the ability to prepare this for people in such a way that they could understand and integrate the larger context, the underlying concept, the numinous. Oruç Güvenç had a great legacy to shoulder and developed it into a celebration of majesty and beauty. The light He brought into this world is eternal and the seeds he sowed contain infinite potential.
